Basic Computer Skills for Job Seeker

This workshop consists of the very basic essentials to familiarize you with a computer.
You will learn the mouse, the keyboard, and Microsoft Word. Using that information,
you'll then learn to surf the Internet, highlight, copy, and paste as well as how to
search the Internet for work..
Boost Your Self Esteem
Prerequisite: None
Depressed because you’ve been hunting for some time for a job? Would you say you
need to boost your self-esteem? Join this workshop to learn about YOUR self-esteem
and how to stay positive in today’s economic environment.
Building Financial Responsibility* 
Prerequisite: None
Those who reflect a solid financial plan show the prospective employer that they
have everything organized and under control. Learn how to do it here.
Business Ethics (Work Ethics)*

Prerequisite: None
This module provides information that addresses the very core elements of what employers
expect of a solid employee. This module establishes the foundation and addresses
those items that are currently an area of concern for employers, enabling you to
become the attractive employee, encouraging the business owner to add you to their

that anymore. So now what? Where do you begin to do the research? How do you transition
your skills? Attend Career Changers for the “How To” steps to begin your new career.

Stress – Anger – Rejection – Seriously Ill – Jobless – Depressed?
This workshop will help you recognize how life may be spinning out of control and how to take steps to COPE.
Customer Service and Satisfying the Angry Customer*

Prerequisite: None
You’ll gain insight into the 212 degrees concept and learn how to take the steps
necessary to reduce stress and de-escalate the upset customer. You’ll benefit from
the experiences of those around you and find the best way to deal with the positive
and negative customer.
Excel Basics
Prerequisite: None
This workshop presents the essentials of getting started in Microsoft Excel,
to include cells, rows, columns, and formulas. With the information presented
herein, you’ll be able to perform elementary functions and even set up your
own budget and checkbook.
First Time Email User
Prerequisite: Basic Computer Skills for Job Seekers
This workshop will set you up with a new email account. Once set up, now you can
create new emails, receive email and use email to contact employers to locate the
job you seek.
How to Retain Your Job

Prerequisite: None
The phone rings….you got the job! So now how do you RETAIN your job? Participants
learn practical skills for succeeding in vital areas: job performance, following
the rules (including unwritten rules), dealing with people (bosses, co-workers,
and customers), how to become an irreplaceable employee, and showing initiative.
Participants give a new employee advice on how to handle problems on a new job and
take advantage of opportunities. And participants learn the importance of personal
qualities, such as integrity, responsibility, reliability, and the work ethic.

Listening, Observing, Reading, and Following Directions -Did you know that employers
are screening out applicants because they are not following directions? How well
do you listen to the questions asked during an interview. Join this workshop for
tips on how to improve your communication skills.
Interviewing Skills
Prerequisite: None
What’s the number one reason people fail at an interview? This workshop will clue
you in and present those techniques which will allow you to be confident at every
phase of the interview process. Following a discussion of interview content and
procedure, it will be time to put those skills to use in a series of mock interviews.
Job Application-How to Complete
Prerequisite: None
Learn the importance of a complete, correct, and accurate (no errors) job application.
In this workshop you will benefit from information you will need to complete an
application for employment and tips and suggestions for writing applications that
make a great impression.
Leadership and Supervision
Prerequisite: None
Here’s your chance to bring the employer an unexpected surprise by being prepared
to assume a key role at the earliest opportunity. The lessons learned here extend
beyond the conventional and will give you lasting lessons of timeless fundamentals
of leadership.
Line By Line Workshop
Prerequisite: Must have attended the Resume workshop and have all of the homework completed. Bring your homework.
In this workshop you’ll convert your homework into a professional resume. The lesson
will move through each line to make sure everything is in place regarding format
and structure. Once the resume is complete, you’ll email it to yourself so that
it will be available to you.
Mock Interview
Prerequisite:Must complete the Interviewing Skills workshop prior to attending.
Here is the opportunity to practice the skills learned in the Interview workshop.
Attendees will find themselves observing as well as performing, refining the skills
needed to land the job!

New Beginning for the Ex-Offender

Prerequisite: None
It is true that a felony conviction can make it more difficult to find and secure
employment, but you are not without options. You must exercise patience, persistence,
and honesty – after all, honesty truly is the best policy. In the New Beginning
for the Ex-Offender workshop, we’ll discuss and examine changing the environment,
employer/employee options, completing the application, and writing the resume.

This workshop is a FOLLOW UP to any of the Job Ready workshops. Once you have attended

Still have an uncomfortable feeling speaking to strangers? This session is designed
to get you over that hump and on your way to being a little more at ease. You’ll
examine the basics, from types of speeches to a simple outline format, all designed
to boost your confidence
Resume & Cover Letter


Prerequisite: None
Ready to land the interview? Be sure your resume is in top shape by examining content,
format, and those professional touches to get you noticed including a solid cover
letter. You’ll be ready to market yourself to the best of your abilities and secure
the interview. Then, after the Interview workshop, you’ll be on your way to your
new career.
Senior Computer Workshop (Spring Hill)
Prerequisite: None
Designed for those Age 55 and over, this workshop presents and reinforces the very
basics of computer operation. Taught at a slower pace with less terminology and
more understanding, this workshop is ideal for catching up on basic technology and
becoming more comfortable with the personal computer.
Time Management*

Prerequisite: None
Employers are looking for candidates who use their available time effectively to
maximize productivity while eliminating waste. Learn how to plot your time!
Touch Typing Workshop
Prerequisite: Must at least have computer knowledge
This workshop presents the basics of touch typing (not looking at the keys). You’ve
become familiar with the home row and the fingers used to cover each of the 26 letters
of the alphabet. Practice makes perfect, so attend until you reach your personal
WPM (words per minute) goal.
Storytelling
Prerequisite: Public Speaking
This workshop is the second step in the Public Speaking series. It focuses
on using the voice and face to express emotion, build excitement, and hone
your interview skills to the next level.
Word Search
Prerequisite: Must complete the Basic Computer Skills workshop prior to attending.
Now that you’ve been introduced to Microsoft Word, it’s time to take those skills
to the next level through a series of exercises designed to challenge and entertain.
10 Minute Warning
Prerequisite: Must complete Public Speaking and Storytelling workshops prior to attending.
Step three in the public speaking series has the student preparing their own ten-minute
presentation on an appropriate subject of their choosing. The evaluation will address
all aspects, including content as well as delivery techniques.
*Complete all modules of the Business Ethics series and receive a Certificate of Completion
suitable for framing.
